Investigated methods of modulating macrophage phenotypes to reduce chronic inflammation in cardiac injury by screening a library of small molecule drugs• Designed and synthesized small molecule drug carriers, leveraging guest-host interactions to form cyclodextrin nanoparticles (CDNPs) and hydrogels, and assessed their mechanical characteristics and drug-release profiles• Optimized nanoparticle preparation methods to tune nanoparticle size, creating nanoparticles of varying hydrodynamic diameters measured through Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)• Quantified the cellular uptake of nanoparticles via confocal microscopy and performed computational analysis with ImageJ for precise data interpretation• Synthesized shear-thinning hydrogels using adamantane-hyaluronic acid (Ad-HA) modifications and CDNPs to find an optimal formulation for drug studies• Cultured and maintained RAW264.7 and bone marrow-derived macrophage cell lines to support in vitro studies
