About Sylvester Amoah
I am curious about microelectronic and photonic devices. Daily, I chip away at questions like;1. How can the cost of photonic devices such as photodetectors and lasers be reduced?2. How can the sensitivity of LiDAR receivers in the mid-infrared wavelength range be improved?3. What is the path to integrating passive and active photonic devices into a single material platform?Pursuing answers to such questions has equipped me with a strong foundation in semiconductor device physics and hands-on research experience. Over the past seven years, I have designed, developed, optimized fabrication processes, and characterized advanced microelectronic and photonic devices. My primary focus has been on germanium tin (GeSn) photodiodes, avalanche photodiodes (APDs), electrically injected lasers, and silicon germanium tin (SiGeSn) multiple quantum well (MQW) lasers.Though my expertise is in investigating photonic devices, I have significant experience in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of group IV alloys such as GeSn and SiSn. This involves designing growth recipes (e.g, aspect ratio trapping), operating a home-built CVD machine during deposition, and characterizing materials grown by CVD. I am eager to contribute my knowledge, experiences, and skills to investigating microelectronic and photonic devices at the edge of technological advancement. I am open to opportunities to innovate and work with a team of individuals with similar energy and interests.
