ABOUT SYED MOHAMMAD ABBAS AKBARI
With a background in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance (Distinction), I combine analytical rigour, financial insight, and a strong understanding of sustainability in investment decisions. My academic and professional work covers ESG fund analysis, risk management, and financial modelling, supported by practical experience in both engineering and finance.I have applied this combination of skills in a range of environments, from optimising a £400 million infrastructure project at AtkinsRealis to developing Python-based valuation and trading models during my master’s research. My dissertation examined the comparative performance of ESG and traditional mutual funds, integrating econometric methods and CRSP data analysis.I am currently working as a Graduate Research Intern at the University of Manchester’s SPRITE+ Network, supporting data-driven research across finance, digital security, and artificial intelligence. Alongside my technical interests, I value leadership and collaboration. As President of the Manchester Model United Nations, I led a team to deliver an international conference and improved the society’s financial and operational performance.I am driven by curiosity, precision, and impact, and I aim to contribute to roles at the intersection of finance, technology, and sustainability.
