ABOUT SYDNEY SKOOG

To be honest, I had no intentions of ever going to college. It didn’t matter that I had diving scholarships lined up. Math. science… history… barf. Instead, I wanted to go to cosmetology school. My dad wasn’t exactly thrilled about my decision at the time. Needless to say, I enrolled in cosmetology school anyway. Twelve-hundred hours later, at just 19 years old, I graduated cosmetology school and landed my first full-time job as a hairstylist. I was enthusiastic about my work and eager to start making a living. I quickly learned that a haircut doesn’t sell itself. Selling is a big part of the job. One day, I went to the Cincinnati Red’s ballpark and passed out my business cards along with “free haircut” coupons to dozens of people as they entered the stadium. If I got someone in my chair, I sold them a haircut. However, my goal was to ensure they’d come back. Working as a hairstylist taught me the skills needed to build a strong business foundation—active listening, effective communication, leadership, and a stellar service experience.After a year of working full-time at the salon, I was ready to expand my professional skills and knowledge beyond the beauty industry. I graduated from Miami University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications and minor in business.Today, I help entrepreneurs and sales professionals grow and elevate their business’ through digital, traditional and social media marketing strategies.
