ABOUT SYDNEY TELLEZ
Sydney has been working within the political and advocacy community for a decade. A graduate from the University of New Mexico with a BA in Religious Studies and Political Science, lifelong New Mexican, and Chicana, she is passionate about subverting systems of oppression that have worked to marginalize and disenfranchise generations of New Mexicans. Her professional accomplishments include working to elect Secretary-elect Deb Haaland as one of the first Native American women to Congress, organizing for access to reproductive healthcare, and running a statewide program to ensure all New Mexicans have access to the ballot box. Sydney believes that inter-sectional advocacy and policy is crucial to building and sustaining strong communities in the face of adversity. Her passion for culture and community is intertwined with a strong desire to increase and develop leadership opportunities for young people, especially young people of color. An Emerge New Mexico graduate and board member, Sydney believes in empowering and equipping her community with the tools to advocate for their healthcare, quality of life, culture, and civil liberties. In her free time, Sydney enjoys the arts, especially performance art, and uses her passion and fundraising skills to increase revenue and funds for various community non-profits.Expertises include: campaign and legislative advocacy; fundraising, event planning and management, donor research and relations, compliance, community engagement, policy research and development, and volunteer recruitment and management.
