Staten Island, NY, US
As an emergency room veterinary assistant, I maintain basic husbandry such as walking, feeding, and cleaning patients to ensure a successful hospital stay. I assist doctors in holding and restraining animals for examinations and procedures. I prepare and run laboratory tests for doctors and input the results into computer databases. I perform radiographs on patients and examine results with technicians. I also dispose of deceased patients\' remains and create paw print impressions for mourning families. Moreover, I clean and track inventory at workstations throughout the hospital.

ABOUT SYDNEY SANTO
I am a current fourth-year student at Bucknell University studying Animal Behavior with a double minor in Biology and Studio Art. Having a background in animal science and ecology, I am particularly interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation. In the spring of 2023, I traveled to Quito, Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands to further study evolution, ecology, and conservation of wild species. I attended field lectures, conducted marine and land research, and honed my wildlife observation skills on species such as tortoises, sea lions, land iguanas, penguins, and others. Post-graduation, I plan on attending veterinary school in pursuit of a career as a wildlife veterinarian and conservationist.
