About Sydney Phillips

Sitting in the backseat of my father\'s truck on the way home from 2nd grade I would complain to him \"All you ever do is play the news!\" Little did I know years later I would be studying the very thing I used to complain about.I have always been a storyteller at heart. I would scribble out stories on colorful construction paper and imagine myself as the next great writer of the century. I had a deep-seated curiosity to know the stories of other people. My favorite books were the ones that were rooted in reality. Fantasy was nice, but I wanted to hear about people. As a current freshman at UNC studying public relations and global studies, I am making it my goal to tell other people\'s stories. Many of the issues of the modern-day stem from a lack of communication and understanding between people, and my goal is to remedy that.As I progress through my academic career I aim to continue to improve my communication skills in ways that will assist me in my educational and professional journey. I aspire to work in international relations where my ability to communicate as well as my understanding of global politics and social movements will serve to propel me first and foremost as a global citizen as well as an effective communicator.
