About Sydney Cherry
I am a J.D. candidate at the Georgetown University Law Center. At GULC, I am an Executive Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal (Law Review) and a member of Barrister\'s Council through the Trial Advocacy Division (Mock Trial). I am a Human Rights Associate through the Human Rights Institute. Through being an associate in this program, I have been exposed to the breadth of human rights law by attending weekly meetings about human rights alongside my doctrinal classes. I am also a section representative for Advocates Against Sexual Violence and an Executive Board member of Georgetown\'s Criminal Law Association.During my 1L Summer, I served as a Summer Fellow at the Office of Attorney General for the District of Columbia, where I am conducting both legal and policy research. I was also a Research Assistant for Georgetown Law\'s Criminal Procedure Professor Clifford Sloan, where I conducted a fifty state survey on gun registration in the United States. I was also a Legal Extern at the United States Attorneys\' Office for the District of Columbia in the Federal Trial Unit. I graduated from the University of Virginia where I studied Public Policy and Leadership in the Frank Batten School with a minor in Foreign Affairs. Through this major, I had the opportunity to be apart of the Community Policy, Analytics, and Strategy Policy Lab, aiding in legislative research and writing policy briefs in response to problems presented in local communities after COVID-19. My coursework particularly focused on reform in the criminal justice system, where I conducted a comparative analysis across multiple countries to understand how to reform American prisons. This project taught me how much I enjoy finding creative solutions to complex problems. I previously served as a teaching assistant to Commercial Law 1 & 2 where I have taught multiple semesters of topics ranging from tort law, contract law, property law, and constitutional law. My passion for the law culminated in my qualification for the AMCA Moot Court National Tournament, where I competed in January of 2022. I am most proud of my work as the former Co-President of Women\'s Leadership and Development, where I was able to execute female led leadership workshops to over thousands of women at the University of Virginia. I am constantly inspired by all the women around me and hope to give that inspiration back.
