In my role as a Graduate Assistant with Idaho State Women’s Basketball, I support the daily operations and development of a Division I program while contributing to both on-court performance and off-court program management. My responsibilities include assisting with player development through individual workouts and rebounding sessions, coordinating and breaking down practice and game film for coaches, and supporting opponent scouting preparation. I also help manage team travel logistics, including itineraries, hotels, and meals for home and away competitions. Beyond basketball operations, I contribute to recruiting efforts by communicating with prospective student-athletes and assisting with both unofficial and official visits. I also help organize program events and fundraisers, including our annual Crab Feed which raised over in support of the program. Additionally, I oversee the coordination of team managers and practice players to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and provide the staff with the support needed to run a high-level Division I program.

ABOUT SYDNEY BOURLAND

I am an aspiring women’s basketball coach with Division I playing experience and current coaching experience as a Graduate Assistant at Idaho State University. My goal is to continue growing in the profession and contribute to a program as an Assistant Coach where I can help develop student-athletes both on and off the court.I played four years at Cal Poly, where I was a three-year team captain and earned Big West All-Academic Honors for three consecutive seasons. During my time as a student-athlete, I worked closely with Head Coach Shanele Stires on leadership and team messaging, helping build culture, accountability, and communication within the program. That experience strengthened my passion for leadership and mentorship within the game.Currently, as a Graduate Assistant with Idaho State Women’s Basketball, I support the coaching staff in player development, film breakdown, scouting reports, recruiting operations, and program logistics. My role allows me to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a Division I program while continuing to develop as a coach. My background as both a student-athlete and a coach has shaped my approach to leadership, player development, and team culture. I am passionate about helping student-athletes grow, building strong programs, and continuing to learn from the coaches and mentors around me.
