During my gap year, I knew I wanted to work directly in a healthcare setting. After completing a Medical Terminology course, I accepted a position as a medical scribe. Through my undergraduate research, I learned that charting is a leading contributor to physician burnout, and I wanted to support physicians by easing that burden. I accepted a position through Chartjoy as a scribe at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, working in the transplant/nephrology clinic. My week will be split between prepping charts and attending clinics, with flexibility to explore other specialties. I am grateful to be working alongside physicians and the ability to contribute meaningfully to healthcare while continuing to learn.
