Innovations in Bioinstrumentation Research Team Lead @Clemson University Department Of Bioengineering
Clemson, SC, US
Enhancing Pulse Oximetry Accuracy Across Diverse Skin Tones-Identified the need to address racial bias in pulse oximetry and developed the project from the ground up-Recruited and mentored a team of five engineering students to provide guidance and direction to drive the project forward-Physically developed and hardwired a pulse oximeter, modifying and coding the device to improve its accuracy across different skin tones-Conducted extensive research on different wavelengths and how darker skin types affect absorption rates to understand racial bias in pulse oximetry technology-Developed an experiment to initiate IRB trials to collect data to increase algorithm accuracy -Conducted the research experiment where data was collected from human participants-Engaged with clinicians to gather insights and feedback to engineer practical solutions-Presented the project at FOCI events to showcase the research findings to a broader audience.
