ABOUT SY TURNER

With ‘creative’ origins in Fine Art, I had aspired to be a Graphic Novel illustrator. Then, studying Multimedia at college, I learnt Graphic Design, Web Design, 2D and 3D Animation. Photography and Videography.Upon seeing my drawings, I was asked by a group if I could do Storyboards for their film. I gave it a go and was later asked if I could help with the cinematography as well. This turned me onto filmmaking and film school where I specifically studied Cinematography and Screenwriting at UWCN/IFSW. October 2013, I received the It’s My Shout award for Best Camera Trainee in conjunction with BBC Wales and sponsored by Films@59 rentals.In 2014, I was selected to participate in both the Talent Pool for Wales and the Bafta Crew Scheme. The latter, I maintained for two additional years. These experiences solidified my lifelong passion for films and the desire to make them.Having worked as a Camera Trainee then 2nd AC aka Clapper Loader and now a 1st AC aka Focus Puller on numerous scripted TV Drama and Feature Film productions over the last decade, my ambitions are to now find representation with an agent. Continue making a living as a Focus Puller, improving my technical knowledge of the vast array of evolving equipment and techniques we use in the camera department.While also building relationships working with up and coming Directors as their Cinematographer to assemble a cinematographer showreel and show what I’m capable of. Then lastly through working with the directors I build friendships with, meet producers, who I can then later, once we’ve built a relationship based on trust, pitch and develop my own personal film and television projects that I’m currently writing in my spare time.
