   The Teleportal: Mapping the MetaverseOver a 2½-year exploration of the metaverse, Steve Van Loon and Julian Reyes documented thousands of virtual worlds: refining them to the hundreds that remain active today. Their findings culminated in The Teleportal, a living visualization connecting the open worlds of the internet. Steve built the initial web versions, authored the Unity specifications, and tested the Unity prototype. Julian Reyes presented the early visualization work at AWE USA 2023 and a more refined version at IMMERSIVE X: The Next Reality Festival in 2025. Together, they advanced the Virtual Worlds Museum’s mission to preserve and interpret digital spaces.This project was made possible by the many creators and explorers who shared their worlds and helped trace the teleportation technologies that connect the metaverse together.
