ABOUT SUZANNE ALDERSON
Using lived and learned experience, I support parents through adversity, particularly through their child\'s poor mental health, and share the insights and experiences that help individuals, companies, and communities to understand and connect more deeply. I started Parenting Mental Health because of the experiences I had with my daughter who became suicidal in 2015 after a period of sustained bullying. While all the clinical care was rightly focussed on her, there was little support for us as parents, and no focus on the powerful role parents play in their child\'s recovery from mental illness. It became a charity in 2020. Based on my experiences, both good and bad, supporting my daughter to recovery, I developed a compassionate behavioural change approach for parents called \'Partnering Not Parenting.\' It has helped thousands of parents to control the only thing they can when their child struggles - themselves - and has brought deeper understanding and connection and better communication to many families. In 2020, my first book \'Never Let Go - How To Parent Your Child Through Mental Illness\' was published by Vermilion, an imprint of Penguin Random House. I stepped down from the charity in March 2025.
