About Suzanne Gaulocher
I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I was part of the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment, focusing on the intersection of human and environmental health. I also hold a Master\'s of Public Health from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and a Master\'s of Arts in Applied Medical Anthropology from Oregon State University. My research centers on the intersection of human health and the environment, with a focus on community engagement, syndemics, social justice, climate resilience, and health equity. My scholarship uses participatory action research with mixed methods to work with communities to identify issues of interest, such as the role of the built environment in community health, and to provide recommendations to policymakers at multiple levels. My goal is to generate and transfer knowledge about how aspects of human behavior interact with the built environment and how these interactions drive community change. I aim to work with community exemplars, including local youth, to design programs and public policies that improve community development and advance equity, fairness, and social and environmental justice.Currently, my efforts center on integrating health equity with AI equity by prioritizing community-engaged scholarship and ethical considerations in the design, development, and deployment of equitable systems within higher education and public health practice. By embedding principles of justice, inclusion, and shared benefit throughout the student experience, I aim to leverage teaching and scholarship to mitigate existing health disparities and promote sustainable community well-being.
