In this role, I serve as NASA’s technical expert and leader responsible for the oversight of behavioral health, team and performance disciplines and risks, research plans, development of potential countermeasures (e.g, astronaut selection, crew composition, training, in-mission monitoring and supports), technologies (e.g, communication platforms), and deliverables to multiple NASA Programs (e.g, Commercial LEO Destination, Artemis, Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility, Human Research Program, Mars Campaign Office). Principal Investigator for Human Factors Behavioral Performance Exploration Measures, and for Project ARCHeR in Artemis II and (Artemis Research for Crew HEalth and Readiness). Co-Investigator for numerous projects including Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA; an operational assessment of crew health and performance for Mars) and Hi-Tempo EVA (testing the limits of repeated spacewalks on human physiology and psychology for Artemis missions). Awarded NASA’s Exceptional Achievement Medal for exceptional leadership in behavioral health and performance in the research and operational domains supporting multiple human space exploration programs, and awarded a Silver Snoopy by the astronauts for critical contributions to BHP operations related to innovation in the astronaut selection process and growing the BHP lab portfolio, team, and collaborations leading to mission success.

ABOUT SUZANNE BELL
I use innovative research and the application of evidenced-based practices to optimize individual, team, and organizational performance. My primary areas of expertise are in the selection, composition, training, and development of high performance individuals and teams; the use of AI and multimodal data in improving teaming; and the development of novel technologies and interventions to support performance in high consequence environments. Currently, I lead NASA\'s behavioral health, individual and team performance research and technology development that will enable astronaut teams to return to the moon and land on Mars. I am Principal Investigator for ARCHeR (Artemis Research for Crew HEalth and Readiness) that will collect critical human health and performance data and set up the research infrastructure for the Artemis missions. I am Co-Investigator on numerous projects related to supporting a sustained presence on the moon and landing the first humans on Mars including Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA), an integrated operational evaluation of human health and performance in Mars resource restricted conditions.My research has been published in top peer-reviewed journals such as American Psychologist, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology and I am in the top 2% most cited researchers in introductory industrial and organizational psychology textbooks. My research and expertise have appeared in Harvard Business Review and most major news outlets. I serve on the editorial boards of Journal of Applied Psychology and Personnel Psychology and am a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. I have extensive applied experience in personnel selection and strategic staffing; the application of AI and computational models to teamwork, behavioral health, and performance; the development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational, team, and leadership training; and the development and validation of novel assessments and selection tools. My work spans the Fortune 100, military teams, professional sports teams, and astronauts. I’ve been awarded NASA’s Exceptional Achievement Medal for exceptional leadership in Behavioral Health and Performance operational and research domains with contributions across multiple spaceflight programs, a Silver Snoopy (award from the astronauts), as well as more than 23 other awards.
