About Sushant Kumar
I’m a dedicated immunologist with a passion for developing cutting-edge immune cell therapies. As a Senior Scientist and R&D Lead at ImmunoACT, I focus on advancing CAR-T cell therapies for cancer. My work combines deep expertise in T-cell biology, genetic engineering, and translational research to help bring next-generation treatments from bench to bedside.My scientific journey began with M.Tech research at IIT Guwahati, where I investigated novel mechanisms of cerebral malaria pathogenesis, resulting in a peer-reviewed publication. During my Ph.D. at IIT Bombay under Prof. Rahul Purwar, I uncovered the roles of Th9 cells and IL-9 in autoimmune diseases and rare lymphoid cancers. I contributed to multiple impactful projects, earned several research awards, and played a role in the early development of India’s first CAR-T cell therapy (NexCAR19).As a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Daria Babushok’s lab at the University of Pennsylvania, I investigated immune escape mechanisms in Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) and bone marrow failure syndromes, expanding my expertise in rare immune disorders. During this time, I received multiple research grants and honors, including the Young Investigator Award.With strong foundations in immunology, translational science, and clinical research, I am committed to improve human lives through science.
