About Susan Thomas
Growing up in Dubai, one of the fastest growing metropolis, I was not aware of the environmental impact that the rapid growth could possibly cause as we had everything at our fingertips. Over the years, I have become aware of the plethora of resources available on the realm of earth. But I realized all the accounted resources are depleting at a rate faster than one can imagine with the burgeoning population and the increasing need for resources. I decided to take up Architecture – the ideal balance of Arts and Science with my love for geometry, forms, figures, and logical based analysis. My five years in Architecture school taught me, that architecture is the art of creating spaces for the people considering the site and surrounding environment. It has changed the way I perceive the world around me and has improved my observation skills. Contextuality and functionality is my priority when it comes to planning and design. Cost effective and sustainable building methods have fascinated me and I can attribute this interest to the works and teaching of my Professor. Dili A.S. during my Energy Efficient Building Elective classes. I am very passionate about sustainable design as well as humanistic architecture, forms and spaces that meet needs of the users for the long term and are very friendly to the physical environment. It is all about thinking- how can the construction industry continue to thrive and benefit the country and its economy in a positive way, while limiting the negative impacts, and increase our overall quality of life, and workmanship and reputation of the industry. I have a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Construction Management from State University of New York College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry with a thesis on Barriers in implementing material transparency in LEED v4 projects. My focus is on healthy building materials and green building certifications along with project management.
