ABOUT SUSAN SUTHERLAND

Having held several successively higher level positions within the agricultural price risk management and trading sector, as well as helping to run a family farm, has provided me with a rich knowledge base of the agricultural sector from farm to consumer. During my career, I have been involved in many aspects of the global agricultural industry including supply chain, market analysis, brokerage, business development, and marketing. With the CME, I developed the capability to plan, organize and execute on strategies to grow the agricultural futures and options business line with significant direct P&L responsibility. The successful expansion of legacy agricultural products and the launch of new contracts are examples of my key accomplishments. I attribute these achievements to a high level of drive, adaptability, perseverance, and interpersonal skills. As an individual contributor, I always valued my ability to execute independently based on being very motivated and focused. As a people leader, I also value my ability to develop and empower others. The ability to successfully communicate across levels and audiences is a cornerstone of my career. I pride myself on creating long-term, collaborative relationships with co-workers, clients and industry associations that contribute to new opportunities, meaningful results and win-win situations. Organizations including the U.S. Soybean Export Council, the U.S. Grains Council, U.S. Wheat Associates, Women in Agribusiness, multiple Ag focused brokerage firms and many additional Ag related associations have utilized me as an subject matter expert on risk management and market related content to many audiences in North America, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. When not focusing on the agricultural business sector, I enjoy co-running a not-for-profit organization that engages formally wild mustangs in equine-assisted learning programs to provide life and leadership skills to youth in Colorado.
