ABOUT SUSANNA HUFFMAN
I am an LPC/LCDC who works from a Person Centered approach with individuals, families, and couples, in a therapeutic setting. I have a wide range of specialties treating both mental health and substance use disorders. My experience and educational background has prepared me well to work with individuals experiencing symptoms related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood disorders, substance use, and symptoms related to family of origin concerns. I take a trauma informed and culturally sensitive perspective to each person I work with and am open to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and the LGBTQ+ community. I am particularly specialized in working with adolescents and their families and have had direct work experience with this population since 2012. I received a dual B.S in Psychology & B.S in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. During my studies, I worked at a residential treatment program for adolescents with dual diagnoses as well as a TLP with men transitioning from the criminal justice system. After obtaining my degrees, I moved to Dallas, TX and received a Masters of Science in Counseling from Southern Methodist University, and was recognized for stellar academic achievement. While studying, I sought experience working directly within the foster care system, and have a strong working knowledge of the Department of Family and Protective Services and youth growing up in foster care.Starting in 2016, I sought a career working in a non profit setting and have treated hundreds of teenagers struggling with behavioral concerns, mental health diagnoses, and substance use disorders. In recent years, I have worked as Clinical Supervisor for residential programming, the Director of Outpatient services overseeing 5 clinics across the state of Texas, and finally served as the Director of Residential Services in Austin, TX overseeing all aspects of programming and clinical services for adolescent SUD treatment. I have also served as a clinic supervisor for the SMU center for family counseling, helping to guide new student interns in their clinical work.I have specialized training in specific areas within the clinical field including Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Gottman level I & II Couples therapy, EMDR, and have presented publicly on strengths based positive psychology treatment for adolescents on several occasions. I am passionate about helping those experiencing mental health challenges along with those looking for deeper connection in their close relationships. I am also a CSAT candidate.
