About Susan P. Joyce

I have been laid off twice and know the pain that results from job loss. My goal is to help job seekers understand how to smartly and safely find good new jobs as quickly as possible, meeting the continually evolving requirements of technology and the economy.Technology has dramatically changed recruiting in the 21st century. Social media (LinkedIn!), search engines (Google!), and applicant tracking systems dominate recruiting today. These elements of technology have made job search much more complex today, very different than what people did in the past to land a new job. Today, a successful job search requires search visibility: Personal Search Engine Optimization (\"Personal SEO\") and LinkedIn SEO - new skills for most people.Making the whole situation more complex, very few of us have privacy now. We leave \"tracks\" everywhere online, intended and unintended. We all have our personal online reputations to manage. I have been quoted in numerous publications including What Color Is Your Parachute, the NY Times, Forbes, and many other top resources. From 1998 through Q1, 2021, I owned, published, edited, researched, and wrote articles for, a top site for job search advice. Job-Hunt helps job seekers understand how technology has changed recruiting and impacted how to job search effectively today. A LinkedIn member since 2004, I have been researching, writing, and teaching about effective use of LinkedIn for job search for many years, helped by the unique perspective provided by my unusual career: ⏺ My first job after college was as an officer in the United States Marine Corps as an intelligence analyst on a general\'s staff at a NATO command.⏺ Then, I spent several years in IT support for Human Resources at Harvard University.⏺ After working at Harvard University, I joined in a Boston compensation consulting firm that helped American\'s largest banks pay employees fairly.⏺ After the consulting company, I worked for a Fortune 50 company for 13 years, until my layoff in 1994.⏺ In 1995, I founded NETability, Inc.(netability.com), a web development company that transitioned into the publisher of Job-Hunt.org. Keeping up-to-date on technology and, especially SEO (Search Engine Optimization), has been a necessity. And very interesting.⏺ More recently, a spent a few years as a Visiting Scholar at the MIT Sloan School of Management assisting in research about the long-term unemployed.
