ABOUT SUSANA RAAB
Susana was born in Lima, Peru and raised throughout the United States. She is a fine-art and documentary photographer working in Washington, DC, and also works as in communications at the National Archives and Records Administration, where past is prologue. In addition to her photographic practice, Susana also researches and writes about arts and photography. She curated the well-received exhibit,\"My Kingdom for a Stage: Contemporary Staged Iberian Photography\" at the Hillyer Arts Center in Washington, DC and has ideas for several other projects in the works. She enjoys opportunities to create programming that shares and strengthens artists\' work, and engages the community in sharing their own story. She has recently branched out into motion and audio. Susana has served as the president of Women Photojournalists of Washington, a non-profit organization committed to education and advocacy for women in photojournalism. She has been the recipient of the White House News Photographers’ Project Grant, a DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Artist Fellowship, several Honorable Mentions in Center’s Project Competition and Curator’s Choice Awards, and a Puffin Grant, among other honors. Her work is held in the collection of the Smithsonian\'s National Museum of American History, The Library of Congress, The Art Museum of the Americas, the Capital One Collection, The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University, the EnFoco Collection, and the DC Public Art Bank. Susana’s work has been exhibited internationally and nationally, at venues including the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Madrid, the Pingyao Photo Festival in China, FotoFestiwal, Lodz, Poland, Noorderlicht Fotofestival, and the Art Museum of the Americas. She received her MA in Visual Communications at Ohio University and holds a BA in English Literature from James Madison University.
