ABOUT SUSAN SCHAEFFER
Susan founded The Patients’ Academy for Research Advocacy in 2018 to help build a community of patients and carers who are better able to influence medical research to be patient-centered, relevant and useful. Through education about the processes and stakeholders involved in researching and developing new treatments, the non-profit organization aims to increase the patient community’s capacity to engage in medical research - from program selection to study design and implementation - resulting in development programs and medical products that better meet patients’ needs.The initiative builds upon Susan’s 15-year career analyzing the biopharmaceutical sector, most recently as the chief editor of the biopharmaceutical industry journal BioCentury during 20••••18. As editor, Susan honed BioCentury\'s platform to educate industry and investors about best practices and new thinking in clinical development, regulation, pricing and market access to speed innovations to patients. Her work has been cited in regulatory filings and has influenced global biopharmaceutical companies to begin working on pricing experiments that can improve access to healthcare innovation.
