Susan advises clients concerning all aspects of employee benefits law. She assists employers with respect to legislative compliance issues, including retirement plan qualification and fiduciary duties, continuation coverage under COBRA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and ERISA claims procedures. Susan represents employers with respect to employee plan matters before various governmental agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Labor. These matters include obtaining IRS determination letters and private letter rulings and utilizing the IRS’ Employee Plan Compliance Resolution System.Working with health and welfare benefit plans, Susan assists in preparing and maintaining plan documents, employee communications, and administrative forms necessary to provide benefits such as medical, dental, long-term disability, and group life insurance. She has performed due diligence review of employee benefit plans and related materials in connection with corporate acquisitions and mergers. In addition, Susan provides advice with respect to nonqualified deferred compensation agreements, including executive compensation arrangements.
