I was performing a walk through of one of our buildings when I came upon several contractors working in the mezzanine, which is the upper level that houses electrical equipment, duct work, and such. Something occurred to me, and I had to find out… I began asking the contractors “What do you do if the fire alarm goes off?” I got the correct answer from most of them.” Then I asked… “What if that exit is blocked, then what do you do?” I quickly realized they did not know. I then asked, “Where do you go for a tornado warning?” They answered with the correct location, so I asked… “How do you get there?” Not everyone could answer that one. I immediately began talking with their Project Managers and Safety personnel. They then made sure to address these issues at their next Toolbox Talk so that everyone would know what to do in these situations. After that, I observed one of the supervisors showing their team the various exits from the mezzanine. This is an example of my passion for identifying problems that others may easily overlook, anticipating potential problems/concerns that aren’t easily recognized, and coming up with immediate solutions to get them resolved, which in this case, will keep people safe. Written SOPs for DEA Compliance and Security for the entire staff. Performed in-depth audits around the facility to maintain zero-findings during DEA field audits. Performed security assessments not only for my employer, but also for partnering companies, and prepared recommendations which were presented to senior personnel for resolution.
