Susan Kon is a Senior Director with more than 30 years of managerial experience – twenty years in commercial RCRA / CERCLA environmental remediation projects and over fourteen years in captured government programs supporting Department of Energy’s clean up mission. Susan has a robust scientific background, including accredited analytical testing, radiological controls and method development. She frequently interfaces with regulatory agencies. She has strong strategic-planning and people-management skills, and is committed to cost-effective management of resources and quality performance. Susan is adept at collaborating with or providing direction to others to develop successful outcomes. She is diligent in tackling difficult, challenging, or complex problems that require dedication, patience, and an open and inquisitive attitude. Some of her career highlights include:Project Management of VNSFS WHL Prime Contract to Department of Energy Office of River Protection for Laboratory Testing and Analytical Services at the Hanford Laboratory. Under her leadership, her team has successfully performed increasing DOE Performance scores from 88% by previous management to 96% in 2017 and 98% in 2018. Transitional management of three programs at the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Site focusing on the turnaround of under-performing organizations to create productive programs through marketing, training, effective communications and innovative solutions to motivate personnel in the creation of high performing, customer service focused and fiscally responsible organizations.Under her management, Hanford Waste Sampling & Characterization Facility (WSCF) increased production by 110% while realizing a 15% cost savings to the program. Under her direction, Hanford Lab received the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Voluntary Protection Program Legacy of Stars and was named one of America’s Safest Companies in 2017 by EHS Today MagazineUsing a strategic and systematic approach expanded the laboratory accreditations and improved contract margins, production and quality at the Hanford Laboratory She has been responsible for management oversight of more than 250 staff with annual budgets of up to $50 millionLaboratory Director of three commercial laboratories accredited though NELAC, AIHA and multiple state accrediting bodies.
