This Nanoporous Zeolite/Carbon Composites Materials company is a Micro start up with 2 US patents granted in 2016 & 2019.CAGE CONCEPTS Ltd, not to be confused with CAGE Capture Ltd, CAGE Industries Ltd./OAKTec and/or nanoCAGE/nCAGE (3 other nanotechnology companies that sprung up recently - with similar names, similar materials and similar affiliations/connections with universities). Is the result of a PhD the owner (Dr Susan H Jones) commenced over 15 years ago (1st Jan 2006 - submitted/completed Feb 2010). She did her PhD entitled ‘Nanoporous Zeolite/Carbon Composites for the Adsorption of Greenhouse gases (GHGs) and Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs); at Surrey University and submitted a proposal to the Virgin Earth Challenge (VEC) Competition, whilst she was writing up her PhD (in 2009), re: using these materials to ‘mop up’ Greenhouse gas emissions - such as R134a/CO2/NOx/SOx. Her proposal was successful through 4 stages of the comp.(having been reviewed by a team of specialists - including a number of Oxford professors - Al Gore and Richard Branson) and came in the final 15 of over worldwide applications - sadly only the top 10 were supported. Having been advised to obtain patents and start a company Susan incorporated CAGE CONCEPTS Ltd. in 2011 and, having obtained the IPR from Surrey University in 2010, the patenting process was started. The patents progressed from the initial British, through to the IPO and finally we obtained 2 x US patents (2016 & 2019) for use of these materials for adsorption of Greenhouse gas emissions, metal clean up via ion exchange, use in medical devices and catalytic conversion of CO & CO2 to products/fuel. Despite no funding (but much praise from the assessors) the business is going from strength to strength. We now have a lab, office, consumables, the 2 patents, and were regional winner and Shell Springboard finalists in 2017. We now need analytical instruments (SEM-EDX, Mass Spec, N2 SSA BET) and we’ll be good to go!
