ABOUT SUSAN BERGNER

Researcher | in diaspora studies in International Relations Speaker | for academic input and facilitator of exchanges Teacher | in political science focus on postcolonial & diaspora studies Advisor | for diaspora policies and exchanges among different stakeholders I am a researcher in political science focusing in my doctoral thesis on African diasporas as political actors in international relations, special attention is given to the German context. My research combines postcolonial perspectives and diaspora studies with an ethnographic approach – especially relevant for my academic nerd friends. As a teacher, I aim to create a co-learning experience where students have the opportunity to learn from me and from each other on postcolonial and diaspora studies as well as qualitative methodologies in political science. I am mixing classical forms of teaching with more agile forms of teaching and learning. As a speaker and advisor, I am especially interested in translating and exchanging knowledge on diasporas within and between different communities – academia, civil society actors, policy actors.
