ABOUT SUSAN ATKINS

I have over 40 years of experience leading complex corporate restructurings, most recently serving as the Global Head of Wholesale Restructuring at JP Morgan, leading an international team of professionals responsible for managing JPMorgan’s positions in many high-profile workout situations. My restructuring experience includes leading negotiations with C-suite executives, private equity sponsors, institutional investment firms and their legal and professional advisors to achieve corporate reorganizations within and outside of formal insolvency proceedings. The work spanned domestic and international situations in consensual as well as litigated matters, where my strong leadership, excellent judgment, and ability to influence parties with a diverse set of interests, combined with my strong analytical skills and extensive understanding of strategy and liquidity management contributed to successful outcomes for the many constituents. I have worked in a broad array of industries, including automotive, telecom, entertainment, retail, healthcare, energy, manufacturing and infrastructure. Throughout my career, I have been a strong leader, promoting an inclusive culture, sponsoring and leading initiatives related to DEI awareness, innovation, and the importance of mentorship, especially for women in finance. I also participated in numerous restructuring industry panels and events. My board experience spans several non-profit organizations. I am currently serving on the board of Her Justice, which provides legal help to women living in poverty in NYC; Journeys2Change, which develops and leads interactive civil rights learning trips and events and as a Mentor for Refugee Employment Project, finding employment opportunities for refugees that are legally able to work in the US. I was a founding board member and long-time Chair of the Board of LitWorld, a global literacy organization, where I established a strategic plan, developed governance protocols and systems for tracking financial and community impact. I also negotiated corporate partnerships for some of LW’s programs, which now contribute to the stability and sustainability of the organization. I continue to serve on the LitWorld Emeritus board. I have an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Minnesota and am based in New York City.
