ABOUT SUREN SHAMS

Suren (Ghasem) Shams is a rock mechanics specialist with over 12 years of experience in the civil and mining engineering sectors. He obtained his Ph.D. in Rock Mechanics from the University of Sherbrooke, Canada, and holds a master’s degree in mining engineering from Tehran Polytechnic, Iran.Currently, Suren works at Groupe ABS in Quebec, Canada, where he is actively involved in rock mechanics projects across various engineering sectors. Prior to his current role, he was a research professional in the Rock Mechanics Group at the University of Sherbrooke.Dr. Shams has extensive experience in applied rock mechanics and has been serving as a lecturer in this field at the University of Sherbrooke since 2020. He is a member of the Rock Mechanics Division (RMD)- The Canadian Geotechnical Society and has cochaired several projects related to rock mechanics.His research interests encompass advanced geomechanical modeling, fracture propagation and mechanism, acoustic emissions, tunnel and mine-scale engineering analysis, rock behavior prediction, deformation monitoring, experimental visualization techniques, and the development of Geomechanics Lab Testing. Suren has contributed to the field through publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. His expertise and dedication make him an asset in the realm of rock mechanics.
