ABOUT SURABHI HODIGERE
At 17, I took a bet: that public impact was worth committing to, and that the messiness of politics shouldn’t scare good people away. I’ve been on that path since. Public problem-solving in India isn’t about heroics or perfect answers. It’s about showing up, building patiently, and staying curious in the face of slow change.I work in policy and politics, moving between policy research and street-level reality. I spent years building civic-tech tools that aimed to fix how people engage with government. Some worked, some didn’t, but they all led me to ask harder questions. At Harvard, I studied how we govern open-source technologies, how Digital Public Goods are stewarded, and what it really means to design infrastructure for the public, not just in public. I came back to India to dive into the DPI success.Politics, and the potential it has to create change, keep me perpetually learning. I know this isn’t a sprint. It’s not even a marathon. It’s more like a long, strange test match where half the time, the pitch behaves badly, the lights flicker, and nobody agrees on the rules. But if you find a way to stay on the field, you get to chance to solve intractable problems at scale. Bengaluru is home, and a city whose future I strive to contribute to. Women’s representation in politics is a priority. And I believe some of the most pertinent public questions still don’t have enough people asking them. I’m here to keep asking.
