About Supti Das
Since my undergraduate days, I am fascinated by biochemistry, cell & molecular biology. And that fascination even grew further when I started working on my master’s thesis. I worked on the project titled \'A field study of Chromium (Cr) and Lead (Pb) resistance potential of Alternanthera philoxeroides, Solanum nigrum and Portulaca oleracea and RAPD mediated genotoxicity assessment of these plants’. In this project, I used several techniques like spectrophotometry, gel electrophoresis, RAPD-PCR essentially to find out that among these three plants A. philoxeroides showed maximum predominance in the metal-contaminated areas in comparison to other plants. I did both my undergraduate (from Scottish Church College in 2017) and postgraduate (Master\'s from Lady Brabourne College in 2019) studies in Botany from the University of Calcutta. After the completion of my postgraduation, I used to work as an online educator(part-time) at a reputed online coaching company named ‘Unacademy’ and also started preparing for the Ph.D. entrance exams such as CSIR-UGC NET, ICMR, ICAR, and GATE. Although I have qualified GATE in 2019 and 2021. Currently, I am working as a Project fellow in a multicentric project named “FTIR-based ultrafast detection and quantitative assessment of COVID-19 viral load” conducted by the University of Calcutta and IIT Kharagpur. This project has really made me improve in handling experimental setup, coping with various molecular biological techniques, keeping lab records, analyzing data, etc. Though this project has made me mouldable with the other branches of life sciences, it helped me to clear my blurry vision on which path I want to pursue my further career. As I have narrowed down my subject of interest, recently I have started searching for research positions that will lead me to be flexible and will give me a better opportunity to carry forward my career in the area of my interest and help me throughout my doctoral studies.
