Dr. Kwon also investigated what features across visual space are processed due to attention and in-attention to various targets due to his strong interest in visual health for diagnosis, treatment, and prediction for potential deficits in visual perception. Dr. Kwon has utilized his knowledge and skills to applied science and expanded into the domains of UX research in investigating both the behavior and perception in HMDs (i.e. VR/AR/Mixed Realities) working with clients from Fortune 500 and other global companies.

Dr. Kwon is an expert in human perception and cognition, attention and visually-guided behavior, and how prior knowledge, and surrounding environmental conditions affect perception, decision-making, and behavior. He investigates human factors (failure analyses/error) and human performance issues in a wide variety of contexts including hazard identification involved with slips, trips and falls; warnings and labels with consumer products; response during emergency situations; automobile, motorcycle, bicycle, and truck accidents including those that involve pedestrians; visual impairments and resulting limitations in spatial vision and attention within normals and clinical populations with visual deficits; and other human performances with personal injury (+ wrongful death) due to misperception and misjudgment in both industrial and occupational settings. Dr. Kwon uses a variety of methodologies, including surrogate and user studies, video analysis, image processing, modern statistical analysis, both classical and state-of-the-art visual psychophysics techniques, eye tracking, and data visualization.
