35 years’ experience in the town & city centre arena around town planning, town centre management (Ayr & Kirkcaldy) and business improvement districts (Kirkcaldy, Largs, Dunoon, South Queensferry, Edinburgh’s West End), and Economic Adviser (Dunfermline City Centre). I have successfully delivered 4 contrasting BIDs - Kirkcaldy, Largs, Dunoon & Paisley - and narrowly missed out on the South Queensferry BID by a mere 4 votes! At a time when knowledge makes a difference, my background within the public, private and public/private sectors is put to good effect. My achievements in balancing the strategic and the hands on - offer a positive route for organisations to optimise their achievements. Strategy Development : I set the strategic direction of two companies with innovative and aspirational visions, clear strategies and action plans : • To make Ayr the UK’s Friendliest Town Centre • To drive up the quality of experience of Kirkcaldy as a retail and visitor destination of choice in east central Scotland Business Improvement District (BID): The development of four contrasting BIDs and the management of four : Kirkcaldy, Paisley, South Queensferry & Edinburgh’s West End. Facilitator/Strategic Thinker :\"Awaydays” and shorter sessions with Board Directors as well as community groups e.g. • Workshop - strategic advice to Dumfries Town Centre Partnership • Advice based on strategic business management principles Research : • Integrated Town Centre Management Possibilities for the Inner Moray Firth Towns • Review of the Key Issues Impacting on the Business Environment of the Independent Retail Sector (Stirling) • Collaborative Research (with James Barr PLC) for economic development projects e.g. Objective 1 Funding Application and project plan for a recycling centre. Event Development/Management : • Scotland’s first “Light Night” event • Kirkcaldy Comedy Festival (the first outside Glasgow and Edinburgh) • Scotland’s Samba Festival • Xmas Lights Switch Ons
