ABOUT SUMONA CHAUDHURY MRCP

Specialist Registrar in infectious diseases and internal medicine in London, at UCLH. Advanced research training in epidemiology and global health and population studies from Harvard University, USA.In addition to training in internal medicine and ophthalmology, I have gained clinical and public health experience across sub-Saharan African and South Asian country settings. I have sought breadth of experience within clinical, population health and research initiatives working with diverse populations in under-resourced contexts. This interest led me to pursue a masters in public health with a focus in global health and population studies at Harvard. After competitive selection for secondment (by the Department of Health in London) to work as a CMO clinical advisor interested in healthcare innovation and for WHO Patient Safety (African Partnerships for Patient Safety), I returned to Harvard to gain further research training in population health sciences. I gained my masters and doctorate in epidemiology and global health and population studies, gaining graduate level education and skills and undertook research with the Botswana Harvard AIDS partnership, Partners in Health in Rwanda and CDC partners in Tanzania. Specialisation in infectious diseases has enabled learning in emerging infectious diseases, pandemic responses and tropical diseases and I have gained expertise in the management of acute and chronic infections,(including in HIV, TB, hepatitis, Covid-19, mpox, rare and imported pathogens and viral haemorrhagic fevers).
