ABOUT SUMMER HAWKINS

I’m a passionate public health advocate with a strong background in event coordination, policy research, and program development. Currently pursuing a Master of Public Health with a focus on Health Policy and Management at New York University, I’ve gained hands-on experience in community wellness, research, and leadership through diverse roles in academia, higher education, and nonprofit sectors.As a Student Club Event Coordinator at NYU, I mentored student organizations in planning and executing a variety of events, ranging from professional development workshops to large-scale marquee events. I’m particularly proud of my work in creating new workflows to aid both students in their endeavors and my fellow team members. My experience also includes tracking and analyzing student engagement data to optimize program effectiveness.During my time as an intern at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center, I conducted a comprehensive community needs assessment and developed population-based policies to address local health challenges. This experience further sharpened my research and communication skills, as I planned collaborations with stakeholders to create outreach strategies for the Diabetes Wellness Program.With experience in policy writing, survey analysis, and digital content creation, I enjoy leveraging my diverse skill set to develop impactful solutions that address community health needs. I’m proficient in a variety of software tools including SPSS, STATA, Qualtrics, and Adobe Products, as well as managing social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Following my various positions, I also have extensive experience with both Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue advancing public health initiatives that level the playing field and affirm the fact that healthcare is a human right. I’m always open to new opportunities to collaborate on projects that aim to improve health outcomes and social equity. Let’s build community & connect!
