About Summer Golen
I am a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and an accelerated Master of Public Health in Epidemiology (4+1 program). My academic and professional interests focus on epidemiology, health equity, chronic disease, and community-based approaches to addressing social determinants of health.I currently serve as the Head Public Health Sciences Peer Advisor in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, where I lead and train a team of peer advisors, support undergraduate students with academic planning, and coordinate workshops and informational programming for Public Health majors. In addition, I have experience as a Public Health Intern with the Foothills Health District, where I managed and organized large-scale datasets, supported data quality improvement efforts, and collaborated with staff on public health projects.I am also a part of the Commonwealth Honors College and am pursuing a certificate in Civic Engagement and Public Service. My honors thesis and certificate capstone, “Stories That Connect Us: Expanding Access to Intergenerational Digital Storytelling as a Community-Based Response to Address Loneliness,” explores innovative approaches to strengthening social connection across generations.I am passionate about applying epidemiologic methods and data-driven approaches to improve population health and am particularly interested in opportunities that combine research, analysis, and community engagement.
