ABOUT SUMIT GALHOTRA

Hello, I\'m Sumit! I\'m a communications professional and storyteller specializing in human rights and social justice. I believe in the power of the pen to inform, inspire, and ignite change. I’ve documented press freedom abuses as a researcher for the Committee to Protect Journalists; shared stories of people who are at the frontlines of social change in their local communities in my time at the American Jewish World Service, and amplified the voices of young gender equality champions in my time at Women Deliver. Over the course of my career, I\'m most proud of: My research for the Committee to Protect Journalists led to the release of journalists imprisoned for their work. My reporting and analysis also supported emergency assistance and relocation for journalists under threat in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Leading youth communications at Women Deliver 2019, the world’s largest conference on gender equality, with the goal of growing the profiles and influence of young advocates, resulting in 156 unique speaking opportunities for young people across the full spectrum of conference programming and 70+ individual media mentions. Planning and executing story gathering trips to Haiti, the Philippines, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Kenya, and Senegal for American Jewish World Service that afforded me the opportunity to learn directly from country consultants, grantee partners, and local communities about their challenges, and witness firsthand their powerful efforts for social change. I’ve been a nomadic New Yorker most of my life, but over these last few years I’ve been putting down roots in Jersey City, NJ with my spouse Adam, our daughter Zaara, and dog Tate. In my free time, I enjoy traveling (52 countries – and counting); watching Hindi films; taking on DIY and interior design projects, and advocating for street safety.
