ABOUT SUMAIRA DHARANI
Director of Education at Asia Society Texas, leading a multidisciplinary team to design and deliver K–12 and community programs that advance global competency, intercultural understanding, and empathy-building experiences for Houston’s diverse communities.I oversee a strong portfolio that includes educator professional development, a teacher summer institute, the Global Education Symposium, Asia in the Classroom resources, Adventures of Asia, school tours and workshops, and family and youth programs, all built around the permanent Explore Asia exhibition.My work spans curriculum design, TEKS-aligned program development, strategic partnerships with districts and universities, grant writing and reporting, and data-informed evaluation. I manage and mentor a team of five, cultivating a collaborative culture focused on impact, inclusion, and continuous improvement.I am especially interested in building teacher capacity for global education, leveraging museum spaces as classrooms, and co-creating programs with community partners. Outside of work, I’m a lifelong learner who enjoys reading, podcasts, travel, biking, and bilingual parenting.
