ABOUT SUKHMAN KHATKAR
I currently work at SEF Canada, supporting community-led economic development initiatives across Indigenous, remote, and mining-impacted communities in Canada and internationally. Our work focuses on helping communities build sustainable local economies that extend beyond the lifecycle of a mine through entrepreneurship, procurement readiness, and capacity-building rooted in local priorities. In my role, I contribute through relationship-building, stakeholder engagement, and cross-sector collaboration, working alongside Indigenous governments, community leaders, and industry partners to support long-term, practical economic outcomes. Alongside this, I serve as an Executive for the Startup & New Business Ecosystem at Punjabi Chamber of Commerce, where I focus on strengthening pathways for early-stage founders and growing a more connected, resource-accessible entrepreneurial community. My work centers on building relationships across founders, service providers, and capital networks to support business formation, growth, and long-term sustainability. Growing up in a family business shaped my deep respect for entrepreneurship and the risks individuals take to build something of their own. I’m particularly interested in how stronger ecosystems, access to resources, and aligned institutions can better support underserved founders and emerging ventures. My broader professional interests include economic development policy, sustainability, public-private collaboration, and entrepreneurship as a tool for inclusive growth. I hold a degree in Sociology with a minor in Economics from Toronto Metropolitan University.
