Full Stack Software Engineer @The Metabolomics Innovation Centre
Edmonton, AB, CA
Planned, designed, developed, refactored various web-based applications, with 6 published research papers, 6 major projects, and ~30 total applications maintained (web-based databases and servers along with their backend core service algorithms), with >10K daily active users (businesses, hospitals, labs, and researchers)• Collaborated with testers, product owners, designers and other stakeholders and researchers to understand requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions• Wrote technical documentation, like design documents, coding standards and system specifications• Managed and organized company codebase of >50K lines of code• Interviewed, managed and mentored junior developers by code reviews and pair programming• Prepared presentation materials for meetings and feature demos1) LC-Autofit: A platform for high-throughput quantification of chemical compounds for our proprietary blood, urine and fecal sample assay kits using LC-MS data offered via metabolomix.ca, making analytical chemists > 50% faster.• Led a team of developers collaborating with our chemistry team to research, design, and implement efficient core algorithms into a maintainable and scalable architecture.• Python, FastAPI, Ruby on Rails, WebSocket, Nginx, NodeJS, React, PostgreSQL, GCP, ElectronJS2) Collaborated on various Deep Learning models based on the Transformer architecture tasks like: signal denoising spectral data like NMR using guided attention mechanisms and leveraging our multiomics databases to create a general metabolomics chatbot. Worked on simpler ML models like Regression, SVM, Random Forest, etc.

ABOUT SUKANTA SAHA
I’m a full-stack software engineer and applied researcher who builds scalable tools for data-intensive science in metabolomics, cheminformatics, and genomics in a cross-functional environment. At TMIC and our spinoff MetabolomiX (MTX) Inc, I lead development across platforms used in both academic research and industry: from highly cited public databases like HMDB, MiMeDB, and NP-MRD to event-driven commercial software systems such as LC-Autofit and GC-Autofit, and other early-stage startup products such as medical/research Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS) at QBoost in Quality Assurance and SAFE-Hub in the Agriculture industry of Alberta, Canada. Additionally, I have co-authored 6 research publications so far.My technical background spans Ruby on Rails, Python, Node.js, ReactJS, ElectronJS, Docker, SQL, cloud, and GPU-accelerated ML pipelines, along with domain-specific JavaScript-based visualization such as genomic graphs/maps, spectral graphing and molecular visualization libraries. Our systems are hosted on the cloud, on-premise infrastructure, as well as national compute clusters.Current ML research areas:• mass spectra and NMR spectra prediction• chromatographic retention time and retention index prediction• spectral signal processing and denoising algorithms• agentic data analysts assistantsI’m also highly entrepreneurial, helping guide TMIC\'s and MTX’s product directions, system architectures, mentoring developers, facilitating technical dialogue with stakeholders in interdisciplinary and multi-institutional collaborations, and contributing to the technical writing of grant proposals. My goal is always to bridge research innovation with industry-ready engineering that\'s economically sustainable.I enjoy translating complex LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and NMR workflows into intuitive, reliable software that holds up in real-world conditions, with the overarching long-term goal towards precision and personalized medicine.Whether you’re a company building scientific software, a research group developing new analytical pipelines, or a team exploring ML/AI applications in life sciences, I’m always open to conversations and collaborations.
