Dr. Su Jin Jez leads California Competes, a nonprofit focused on strengthening the link between higher education, workforce systems, and economic mobility in California.The organization’s work sits at the intersection of research and policy—helping policymakers, education and workforce development leaders, and employers make better decisions about how to support students, workers, and families in a rapidly changing economy. California Competes translates data into action, builds cross-sector coalitions, and helps turn promising ideas into policies that work on the ground.In recognition of her contributions to transforming higher education to meet the needs of a diverse society and economy, Dr. Jez received Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education’s highest alumni distinction, the 2023 Stanford Alumni Excellence in Education Award. She was also honored with the 2021 Pamela Tate Rise Award from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning for her leadership in advancing policy solutions that expand access to higher education and economic mobility for adult learners. In addition, she is an Aspen Institute Ascend Fellow and a Stanford Center on Longevity Futures Fellow.She also serves on multiple boards and councils, including California’s Cradle-to-Career Data System Governing Board, Credential Engine’s Board of Directors, Tipping Point Community’s Leadership Council, the AI Transfer and Articulation Infrastructure Network’s Advisory Council, and the CAEL Board of Directors.Her work is especially focused on economic development strategies that center higher education and workers, and on cross-sector coordination that drives shared prosperity.
