Over the last few years, I have worked on mathematical problems that aim to apply Lie algebras and representation theory to near-term quantum machine learning (QML). During summer 2021, I additionally gained broad expertise in NISQ-era quantum computing for near-term applications through the Quantum Computing Summer School.The first project concerned the control Hamiltonians used by a near-term quantum algorithm (quantum alternating operator ansatz, or QAOA for short) to solve the Max-Cut problem. I presented this work as a poster at the 24th Annual Southwest Quantum Information and Technology (SQuInT) Workshop in October 2022 (http://physics.unm.edu/SQuInT/2022/index.php), and as a talk at the American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting in March 2023 (). We put this paper on arXiv in October 2024 (https://arxiv.org/abs/24•••••87) and have submitted it for journal review.The second project concerned the interaction between symmetry and locality for the qubit permutation representation of the symmetric group Sn. In this context,\"locality\" or \"bodyness\" refers to the number of qubits an operator acts nontrivially on. More specifically, we studied the ability of permutation-equivariant k-body qubit gates to produce \"universality\", i.e. the ability to generate all possible symmetry-equivariant operators via commutators. We put this paper on the arXiv in March 2023 (https://arxiv.org/abs/23•••••28), and it was accepted to the New Journal of Physics in May 2024 (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/13••••30/ad4819).More projects will be coming soon! I am excited to continue working with the Los Alamos quantum computing team for the foreseeable future.

I am interested in math and physics primarily for the wonder and beauty they provide but also for their power to explain the universe and improve every aspect of human life. My primary skill is my mathematical mindset-the ability to reason analytically, logically, and creatively-a skill that I find useful in everything I do.\"I wrote that in high school, when I first made my LinkedIn profile. I have kept it up all this time because it still represents who I am at my core. But if you want a more career-focused profile:I am a PhD student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at Duke. My research is in quantum information theory, which I like to describe as the study of what we can or cannot do when manipulating quantum states. More specifically, I study quantum analogues of parameter estimation theory, in particular quantum Fisher information metrics and what they say about our ability to estimate and distill quantum states. This field draws heavily on insights from statistics and information geometry, and I believe it has a lot to say about the fundamental nature of quantum mechanics.
