ABOUT SUEYEUN JULIETTE L.

At TREC, I support environmental and conservation organizations in western North America (from the Sonoran Desert to Alaska\'s Arctic Refuge) to address historical racism, discrimination, and bias in order to more fully serve their missions for conservation, ecological health, and sustainability. I lead the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy for TREC\'s consulting services and provide consulting services to our clients on community engagement, program development, strategic planning, board development, organizational culture, and change processes. I also volunteer as a mentor for the Next 100 Initiative of Colorado, which supports the leadership of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color workers in conservation and outdoor recreation industries. I\'m also a published author and exhibiting artist. Previously, I won a Pew Fellowship in Literature for my poetry, and have traveled internationally for arts residencies in video art and writing. My creative work explores questions of place, displacement, and perception, and I make use of speculative, documentary, and ecopoetical modalities to offer alternative ways of experiencing and understanding the world. I have published 5 books of poetry and presented across the country, including UC Santa Cruz, The Blaffer Museum of Art at the University of Houston, Smith College, the Asian American Writers Workshop, Poets House, The Kelly Writers House at the University of Pennsylvania, Chicago\'s 2016 city-wide performance art festival IN>TIME, Contemporary Artworks Loveland, the Longmont Museum, Leon Gallery, and the Denver Art Museum. I was a featured exCHANGE artist for Asian Arts Initiative\'s 25th anniversary celebration in Philadelphia in 2018.I am passionately committed to the arts as a vehicle for social change! I was the local coordinator for the 2014 National Asian American Theater Conference and Festival. Hosted by the Consortium of Asian American Theater Artists (CAATA) and the Asian Arts Initiative, the festival was a week-long showcase of four new theater productions that culminated in a 2-day conference of theater artists and scholars in Philadelphia, PA. I have consulted for the Smithsonian Institute\'s Asian Pacific American Center and the Asian American Writers\' Workshop.I\'m an independent scholar of contemporary US experimental poetry, particularly Asian American and Black authors. My published essays explore appropriation, racism, trauma, innovation, alterity, and highlight intersections between visual art and poetry.
