ABOUT SUE ANNE BELL

I focus on improving how health systems and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. My work connects research, policy, and operations to translate evidence into practical solutions that strengthen readiness and long-term resilience. Drawing on experience across national advisory roles and more than 15 years of disaster response, I bring a results-driven approach to building systems that perform under pressure.My work bridges health, policy, and resilience—connecting evidence with implementation to strengthen disaster readiness and recovery across systems. I translate data and research into frameworks that guide national approaches to preparedness, aging policy, and health system performance. I focus on turning insights from large-scale data and field operations into practical models for decision-makers across government, healthcare, and the private sector.As a Nurse Practitioner with the National Disaster Medical System, I have more than 15 years of field experience responding to hurricanes, wildfires, and public health emergencies, including the first U.S. COVID-19 quarantines. These experiences shape my approach to policy design that works under pressure and delivers measurable results. I have served on national advisory councils with FEMA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, contributing to federal policy on disaster preparedness, aging, and health systems readiness.
