I\'m Sudeepta Matha, a recent graduate from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Psychology (Neuroscience Track) and a minor in Cognitive Sciences. My academic interests center on the intersection of neurodevelopment and suicidality, and I am committed to pursuing a Ph.D. focused on evidence-based interventions for suicide prevention in vulnerable populations. Ultimately, I aspire to contribute to a future where mental health is prioritized and accessible to all.Growing up in both India and the United States, I became fascinated by how behavior and perception are shaped by cultural context. This curiosity led me to study psychology and neuroscience at UCF, where I explored the interplay between culture, cognition, and emotion. I am especially drawn to the relationship between neurodevelopment and suicidality—a complex, understudied area. Having witnessed the diverse manifestations of suicidal distress across cultural settings, I am passionate about investigating how cultural, social, and environmental factors interact with neurobiological processes to influence suicidal ideation and behavior. By studying neurodevelopmental pathways linked to suicide risk across diverse populations, we can uncover universal risk factors and develop more effective, culturally sensitive prevention and intervention strategies.
