About Subear Hussein
I am a cancer researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and incoming MS Epidemiology student at Columbia University\'s Mailman School of Public Health.My background spans translational cancer research, community-based public health, and global health fieldwork — giving me a unique bridge between bench science and population-level research. At DFCI, I have contributed to research on early precursor blood cancers including MGUS and Smoldering Multiple Myeloma, with work ranging from circulating tumor cell enumeration to whole genome sequencing. As an undergraduate researcher, I led an independent project investigating CTCs as biomarkers for treatment response — presenting findings at national conferences at Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania.Beyond the lab, I designed and led an independent vaccine hesitancy study in Somaliland, training medical students and supervising data collection across four health centers — an experience that deepened my commitment to equity-driven, community-centered public health research.I am passionate about cancer epidemiology, health equity, and using rigorous methods to understand and reduce the burden of cancer across diverse populations.
