ABOUT SUSAN SUÁREZ-MADSON
I love learning and am drawn to organizations whose work is centered around ensuring that more high-potential students of color graduate from college. I have 20 years of experience in schools and nonprofits that are driven by this mission. I am a teacher and champion of college at heart. I thrive in dynamic work environments where I am challenged to learn, teach, and develop both programs and people – all in the service of college success for first-gen students. I believe educating parents is one of the keys to increasing college completion rates. Engaging and educating parents of first-gen students in particular is one of my specialties as it brings together my deep content knowledge, strong facilitation skills, and desire to empower parents to be college champions at home. As a first-generation college graduate, I know the impact that parental support can have on a student’s future aspirations and persistence toward achieving the goal of college graduation. I feel called to use my skills and experiences to ensure that more students like me graduate from college and have choice-filled lives. I am available to consult on staff development and program design, implementation, and evaluation in the areas of College Readiness and Access, Postsecondary Success, and Parent Education.
