About Cary B.

Cary Brown leads her family foundation, which is aimed at furthering global solutions related to climate change and promoting best practices in environmental stewardship, the arts, and education. She also serves as a director of one other family foundation. For four years Cary was a member of the Major Gifts Committee for Brown-Forman Corporation, a philanthropic group committed to the environment, the arts, and education on an international level. She currently serves on the boards of: Kentucky School of the Arts, DendriFund, BOMB Magazine, Speed Art Museum, Henry L. Ferguson Museum. Since 1995, Cary has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia, her alma matter. Also at the University, she has worked on committees for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, and the Virginia Film Festival. She recently joined the Advisory Board of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, run by Dr. Thomas Lovejoy. Cary grew up on a farm in Kentucky, which she credits for her deep connection to the land. It was nature and a naturalist grandmother that inspired her to become an artist early on. She studied Art in High School and College and afterwards in New York City at the New York Academy of Art and the Arts Students League. During this time, Cary worked at Christie\'s Auction House while also working on an AAS degree at Parsons School of Design. After graduating from Parsons in 1987, she worked for the architect Glenn Gissler before starting her own design and art dealing company, Studio CB. During this time she helped build corporate art collections in New Jersey, Kentucky, and New York City. In 1993 Cary married and move to Virginia, where she returned to her love of farming, gardening, birding, raising animals, and painting all things natural. Since 1994 Cary has shown her paintings at Les Yeux du Monde in Charlottesville. She enjoys birding and in March \'14, Cary showed her bird paintings in the group show: Visions of Spring.
