Breath of Life / Dresden” © Stuart Williams, is being sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). The facade of an historic building in Dresden, Germany is being temporarily transformed with light. making it appear to be “slowly breathing.” The site is the Dresden Cathedral, built in 1738, and one of Dresden\'s foremost landmarks. Virtually destroyed in WWII, it was rebuilt in the 1980s. The highly visible installation is scheduled to open in 2013. All lighting utilizes energy-efficient LED technology. “Given Dresden\'s nearly total destruction at the end of WWII, I think the vision of one of its most important landmarks appearing to be breathing will be extremely moving.” – Stuart Williams.The Dresden installation is the second leg of a dual-city installation, bridging the Atlantic, and linking Dresden and Columbus, Ohio in a shared public art experience on the occasion of their 20 years as “sister cities.” The project is thematically rooted in another dual-city installation by Williams, also being sponsored by NYFA, which is in planning for Paris and New York.
